Fahad Pasha
Senior Insider Threat Researcher
Fahad Pasha is a senior insider threat researcher for the Insider Threat group at The MITRE Corporation. Fahad has 10 years of experience in intellectual property prosecution and litigation, and a background that combines management, legal, and technical expertise. Insider threat programs have a core mission to protect sensitive information and intellectual property. Prior to his time in big-law, he led efforts at a software start-up called Haystack IQ, that promoted innovation cycles at companies by accelerating ideation in research and development using natural language processing algorithms. As an Insider Threat Researcher at MITRE since 2022, Fahad has taken part in literature review studies, human-subject data collection interviews, insider risk program guidebook reviews, and developing behavioral science experiment research proposals for the MITRE Innovation Program. For example, Fahad has developed a research proposal examining how malicious insiders employ evasion strategies to avoid being detected by their organizations. The strategies used are a function of how well they understand their organizations existing detection capabilities, or the tradecraft training they receive. Based on MITRE’s prior research, there are two known evasion strategies: the ‘norm following’ strategy and ‘rule following’ strategy. However, there has been no scientific research on how Insider Risk Programs can detect those strategies using cyber data. Fahad holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech.
