Dr. Nathaniel Ratcliff
Lead Social Behavioral Scientist
Dr. Nathaniel J. Ratcliff is a lead social behavioral scientist at The MITRE Corporation working on the Insider Threat Capability Team. A social psychologist by training, Dr. Ratcliff has over 15 years of experience designing, conducting, analyzing, and reporting on behavioral science research. On MITRE’s Insider Threat Capability Team, Dr. Ratcliff contributes to a growing portfolio of work examining evidence-based behavioral and psycho-social strategies to deter, detect, and mitigate insider risk. Across his career, Dr. Ratcliff has utilized numerous methodological approaches including controlled experimental lab designs, quasi-experimental designs, descriptive analyses, online surveys, and analyzing big administrative datasets. Dr. Ratcliff’s past research focused on social power dynamics, leadership development, organizational climate, measurement development, team resilience, and work performance. To date, Dr. Ratcliff has published multiple peer-reviewed journal articles, technical reports, and a book chapter. Crosscutting throughout his research, he endeavors to serve as an analytic storyteller: synthesizing statistical, methodological, and conceptual analyses into actionable, evidence-based solutions for decision- and policy-makers. Dr. Ratcliff holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Miami University (OH) and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from The Pennsylvania State University.
